The consortium Istituto Marchigiano di Tutela Vini IMT, founded by wine producers in 1999, unites more than 500 producers in the provinces of Ancona, Macerata and Pesaro-Urbino. Together, these producers account for over 90% of the wine exported from the Marches region. IMT represents 45% of the area under vine in the Region. Approximately 9,000 hectares out of the 19,500 hectares of vineyards in the Marches are used for producing DOC and DOCG wines. The remaining 50% is used to make IGT wines under the geographical indication “MARCHE”. The Marches has 12 DOC and 4 DOCG status appellations.
