Winegrowers in Provence for eight generations, the Sumeire family has been established in Trets facing the mythical Sainte Victoire mountain since the 13th century. If the oldest known trace of the Sumeire family goes back to 1238, with a Sumeire member of the assembly of notables of the village of Trets in Provence, it is Jean-Baptiste Gautier, great-great-grandfather of the current owners, Olivier Sumeire and his sister Sophie Sumeire Denante, who in 1903 acquired Château Coussin, an estate that owes its name to Jean-Baptiste Coussin, a lawyer at the Court of Appeal in Aix-en-Provence and master of the place in the 18th century. On these lands, in 102 BC, Plutarch, in his book on the life of Marius, already mentions a vineyard belonging to people from Marseille. Surrounded by seven hilly groves, the vines, slightly elevated, are located on the exceptional terroir of the Côtes de Provence Sainte Victoire and are cultivated without any weedkillers, according to the rules of the high environmental value. The ultimate in Château Coussin wines, a selection of the best plots is found in the Coussin "César à Sumeire" vintages, packaged in a box designed by the famous sculptor César.
